SAFTU, COSATU on the signing into law of the Minimum Wage Bill

video thumbnail
The Minimum Wage Bill that was signed into law by President Ramaphosa on Friday has been criticised as shameful the legalisation of slave wages. The nation all wage bill is part of a package that includes changes to labour legislation in South Africa and will come into effect on the first January next year. It's expected to benefit nearly 6m workers who still earn less than R3 700 a month.
We are joined by trade union federations - COSATU's Parliamentary coordinator Matthew Parks, who are in support of the new law and rival organisation SAFTU's General Secretary Zwelinzima Vavi, who are opposed to it.
