The Last Kimberlite forming Eruption; 12,000 Years ago in Tanzania

video thumbnail
It was previously thought that the rare diamond bearing rock type known as kimberlite had not erupted for 25 million years. On the contrary, it was recently discovered that a small insignificant volcano in Tanzania produced batches of kimberlite a mere 12,000 years ago. So, why did kimberlite form at this volcanic complex, which is known as the Igwisi Hills?
