video thumbnail
Learn about the Victorian road rules governing shared bike paths for walkers and cyclists. Shared paths are important places for pedestrians and bicycle riders so it is important to know the road rules governing paths for the safety of all users.

Here's some simple behaviours and rules that will help pedestrians and riders safely share a path.

1. Pedestrians should always keep to the left of the path
2. Pedestrians should always keep their animals under control and on short leads when using the path
3. Pedestrians should always watch and listen for bicycle riders who may be coming from behind or around corners
4. Bike riders must keep to the left of the shared path unless overtaking
5. Bike riders must give way to all pedestrians
6. Bike riders must use bell to let others know they are approaching and always travel at a safe speed
7. Bike riders when overtaking should always give way to those approaching on the other side of the path and overtake safely and when it is clear to do so
