What is your technological personality? Knowing how we relate towards the revolutionary emergence of technologies through our behaviors and human characteristics, can assist humanity in understanding how to coexist and adapt to the evolution that is undeniably being driven by disruptive technologies.
Recent developments in the scientific arena are suggesting that digital interventions such as those brought on by innovative technology may assist in improving and even changing human personalities (Balsari-Palsule, 2021). McCrae & Costa (1987) expanded on the original theories of D. W. Fiske (1949) who coined 5 main personality types namely, extroversion, agreeableness, openness, conscientiousness, and neuroticism which can assist in defining the types of relationships between humans, their personalities and how they relate to emergent technologies, consequently giving way to the creation of technological personality types. Scott & Eichler (2022) iterate that there is an emergence of innovative technologies such Artificial intelligent, ChatGPT and Augmented Reality that are significantly altering the manner in which individuals operate. Due to the integral part that technology has formed in modern day living, its impact is being felt in all aspects of life and a portion of its transformative effect has extended to human behaviour, one such case is that of the introduction of smartphone technology and its enablement to provide alternative methods to perform a number of tasks which has led to the excessive use of smartphones by humans, which has been linked to an increase in anti-social behaviours, reclusion and eventual isolation which can be traced to the neuroticism personality type. The aim of this TedTalk is to fuel conversations around the behaviour of humans towards innovative technologies through a discussion of the main personality types and how the relate to the different types of innovative technologies, The proposed, if selected, will aims to expand and define possible new technological personality types.
