(12 May 2010) HEADLINE: Cameron takes British reins with partner Clegg
CAPTION: Britain has entered a new political era, with Conservative Prime Minister David Cameron governing the country with his Liberal Democrat partner Nick Clegg. The two men made an effort to hammer home publicly the idea that they could cooperate. (May 12)
VOICE-OVER: English
NEW BRITISH PRIME MINISTER DAVID CAMERON AND HIS DEPUTY NICK CLEGG DID WHAT THEY COULD TO DRIVE HOME THE POINT THAT THEY'LL COOPERATE TO ENSURE THEIR UNUSUAL COALITION GOVERNMENT REALLY WORKS.
IN THE MORNING THEY SHOOK HANDS, POSED AND WAVED OUTSIDE NUMBER 10 DOWNING STREET.
THEY LATER FIELDED QUESTIONS-GLOSSING OVER POLICY DIFFERENCES BETWEEN CAMERON'S CONSERVATIVES AND CLEGG'S LIBERAL DEMOCRATS...

And it will be an administration united behind one key purpose, and that is to give our country the strong and stable and determined leadership that we need for the long term."
(SOT: Nick Clegg, British Deputy Prime Minister)
"This is a government that will last.
Clegg and Cameron both stressed the urgent need to tackle the country's looming budget deficit... And both men fielded the occasional awkward question in good humor.
(QUESTION THEN EXCHANGE)
"Prime Minister do you now regret, when once asked what your favourite joke was you replied "Nick Clegg", and Deputy Prime Minister, what do you think of that?"
Cameron: "We're all going to have..."
Clegg: "Did you say that?"
Cameron: "I'm afraid I did one time."
Clegg: "I'm off, I'm off." (walks away)
Cameron: "Come back."
DESPITE THE JOKING AROUND, BOTH MEN TRIED TO DOWNPLAY DIFFERENCES.
(SOT: David Cameron, British Prime Minister)
"We're all going to have things that we said thrown back at us. And there's a serious point in this; which is, if you want to spend the next five years finding Lib Dem politicians who slightly disagree with Conservative politicians about this, or a slightly nuanced policy, you can find lots.
THE ONE-TIME FOES APPEARED RELAXED IN EACH OTHERS' COMPANY. THEY HAD BANDED TOGETHER TO OUST FORMER LEADER GORDON BROWN AFTER NO ONE PARTY HAD WON A MAJORITY OF SEATS IN LAST WEEK'S ELECTION IN BRITAIN.

"This is the first coalition government in Britain for 65 years. It will be an administration united behind three key principles: freedom, fairness and responsibility. And it will be an administration united behind one key purpose, and that is to give our country the strong and stable and determined leadership that we need for the long term."

4. SOUNDBITE: (English) Nick Clegg, British Deputy Prime Minister:
"This is a government that will last. Not because of a list of policies, important though they are, not because it will be easy - there will be bumps and scrapes along the way, we are different parties and we have different ideas. This is a government that will last, despite those differences, because we are united by a common purpose for the job we want to do together in the next five years. Our ambition is simple and yet profound: our ambition is to put real power and opportunity into the hands of people, families and communities to change their lives and our country for the better."
