During basic combat training, US Army trainees learn a variety of hand-to-hand combative skills, including martial arts and simulated fighting with bayonets using pugil sticks. Trainees learn how to close the gap between themselves and the enemy at various distances using armored vehicles, firearms, and their hands. Insider followed a platoon of trainees pitted against each other in a pugil stick fighting competition. The winning platoon adorned its platoon flag with a decorative streamer indicating its victory at its graduation ceremony.
