I've had this cover of Erutan's "Raindancer" (from her debut album of the same name) sitting on my computer gathering dust for a long time (like, years). I finally decided to make a video for it and upload it! The song contains only acoustic guitar and LOTS of vocals; not really anything like what I originally set out to record, but I think it had its own charm. :) Erutan's original song was an instrumental, and had no words except some "lalala"s and other vocalizing. The lyrics I arranged for it come from a traditional Jewish hymn sung on Friday nights. There are at least a dozen tunes to it, but I think this is a new one. :) The language is not Hebrew; it is Aramaic, once the most commonly spoken language amongst the Jewish people and now almost completely extinct. If you'd like to read the full translation of the hymn, and hear some of the more popular tunes, check out this link: http://www.zemirotdatabase.org/view_song.php?id=56 Raindancer (c) 2008 - Erutan/Kate Covington I've put the translation of the Aramaic lyrics in the video, obviously. The pictures are of what I thought was the most natural "raindancer"- the spider.
