Understanding Ink Paintings | Cai Heng
The art of Chinese ink painting lies in capturing the inner essence of a subject and not just its outer appearance. As such, the key to appreciating its holistic beauty as a practice is understanding the principles that guide Chinese ink painters in expressing their ideas and sentiments. This lecture introduced participants to underlying principles of Chinese ink painting, such as composition, perspective and the use of colour. Ink paintings on display in the Gallery were used as case studies for illustration. This talk took place at National Gallery Singapore on 16 April 2017, as part of Ink Masters series. - About the Speaker Cai Heng holds a PhD in Art History and Theory from The University of Sydney, and is currently a Curator at National Gallery Singapore.
