From 1791, the slaves of Saint-Domingue rebelled and engaged in a fierce struggle for liberty.
Toussaint Louverture and Jean-Jacques Dessalines will stand up against Napoleon Bonaparte's expedition until their break with France and the declaration of Haiti's independence. The American President Thomas Jefferson who wanted New Orleans will take advantage of the struggle of the Haitians to proceed to the purchase of Louisiana which would be the starting point of the American expansion towards the west.
