Wednesday wx vlog 5/8/2024: Stay Weather Aware today and tonight as a few waves of severe storms move in. Large Hail and Damaging winds are the primary threats, but can't rule but isolated tornadoes. #cltwx #ncwx #scwx #wcnc #weatheraware #weather #charlotte #northcarolina #southcarolina

In this severe weather vlog, Chief Meteorologist Brad Panovich lays out the timing of severe weather in Charlotte and across the Carolinas. Brad will break down the storm impacts, when they'll move into the Charlotte metro and look ahead to further severe weather threats on Thursday.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Charlotte and most of western North Carolina until 4 p.m. Wednesday ahead of the threat of severe thunderstorms.

Chief Meteorologist Brad Panovich is monitoring a line of strong thunderstorms that's expected to move into the mountains around lunchtime Wednesday with a threat of severe weather in the Charlotte metro from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the following counties ahead of the storms: Alexander, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Cleveland, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln and Mecklenburg. The watch is in effect until 4 p.m., but the window for severe weather in the Charlotte area will be open until around 7 p.m., according to Panovich.

Panovich says Wednesday and Thursday are days to be Weather Aware in Charlotte and the Carolinas. This means there is a chance for severe weather that could impact people's safety and their property. These storms are also expected to impact the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow.
