Uses of plants
Plants give us different kinds of food.

We eat the different parts of plants such as roots, stem, leaves and flowers as vegetables.

Certain vegetables grow as a root under the soil that we eat as vegetables.
For example turnip, radish and carrot

We eat some vegetables as stems that grow on underground stem of a plant.
For example potato and ginger.

We also eat many kinds of leaves as vegetables.
Example spinach and cabbage

Surprisingly we also eat certain flowers as vegetables.
Example broccoli and cauliflower.

We get juicy fruits from plants.
Such as strawberries, apple, lemon, orange, grapes, pear, mango, banana, watermelon etc.

We eat food grains of some grass-like plants. These are known as cereals.
Cereals are a major source of energy.
Example : rice, wheat, maize etc.

We eat seeds of certain plants. These are called pulses.
Pulses are found inside pods whereas cereals are not found inside pods.
Example kidney beans, peas etc.

We get coffee from the seeds of the coffee plant called the coffee seeds.

We also get tea from dried leaves of tea plants.

Plants give us spices such as cardamom, cinnamon and black pepper etc.
A spice is usually a dried seed, fruit, root or bark of plants.
Spices add flavor to our food.
