Kidman’s affiliation with Scientology, the controversial religious organization that Cruise has long been associated with, was rumored to be a major factor in their eventual split. However, it wasn’t until years later that the true extent of the couple’s troubles was revealed. Former members of Scientology have alleged that Cruise had Kidman’s phone tapped without her knowledge or consent. This invasive measure was reportedly taken because Cruise and Scientology leaders suspected that Kidman was planning to leave the organization. Cruise also allegedly subjected Kidman to harsh interrogations, known as “sec checks,” which are a common practice in Scientology. Adding to the turmoil, Kidman was reportedly pregnant at the time that Cruise announced he had filed for divorce. Shortly after the split went public, Kidman suffered a miscarriage. Yikes.
