Government Action to Reduce Methane from Rice Production |
![]() |
Paddy rice is a staple crop for much of the worldโs population. It is also a key source of the greenhouse gas methane, responsible for about 40 million tonnes, or 10% of global emissions, each year.
Sustainable rice production practices that reduce water consumption and the need for fertilizers can control increasing methane emissions and ensure the livelihoods of millions of smallholder rice farmers. This webinar looks at the experiences of the governments of Viet Nam and Bangladesh in developing and implementing policies to reduce methane from paddy rice and explores how these actions can simultaneously reduce air pollution and climate change with benefits for food security. Recording made on 5 October 2021.
