Preserving endangered languages: Barry Mosses at TEDxCCS

video thumbnail
Barry Moses, an Adult Basic Ed Instructor at SCC, is racing against the clock to preserve his Spokane tribe's Salish language. A poet, performer, photographer and amateur historian, Barry recently found Chief Garry's original name, Slough-Keetcha, and is intent on capturing the previous generations' knowledge before the keepers of his people's stories die off. In his blog http://sulustu.blogspot.com, Barry documents his efforts to keep his connection to the past alive. The recipient of the Deccio Excellence in Equity Award, Barry co-facilitates the CCS Intercultural Leadership Program.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
