The Euro NCAP committee, which conducts independent crash tests of cars, has smashed the Mercedes-Benz G-Class of the new generation. The model received the highest possible rating — five stars.
The safety of the driver and adult passengers of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class was estimated at 90%, children - at 83%, pedestrians - at 78%, and the operation of electronic auxiliary systems - at 72%. The experts' complaints were caused only by the low protection of the front passenger's chest during a frontal collision across the entire width. In addition, there is a risk of chest injuries to the driver in a frontal collision with a deformable obstacle. When struck from behind, there is a risk of neck injury to the rear passenger. Experts noted the high degree of protection of child passengers. For pedestrians, the greatest danger is posed by the side pillars of the car. Experts also positively assessed the operation of the autonomous emergency braking system of the car and numerous driving assistance systems. The new Mercedes-Benz G-Class debuted in early 2018 at the Detroit Auto Show. The car is based on a ladder-type frame and an independent suspension on two wishbones, specially developed by Mercedes-AMG engineers. The model is being assembled at the Magna Steyr plant in Graz (Austria) Honda CR-V and Seat Tarraco also took part in the tests. These cars received five safety stars based on the results of crash tests. The Spanish crossover received the highest score for the safety of the driver and adult passengers — 97%. Since January 2016, the updated version of the Euro NCAP test methodology has come into force. In addition to standard impacts on deformable obstacles, it involves tests of a pedestrian collision avoidance system. The car is accelerated to 40 km / h, after which it must detect a dummy on the roadway and reduce the speed in front of it as much as possible or stop. |
