This film is about the island K'gari, better known as Fraser Island. It's the biggest sand island in the world. K'gari is beautiful and a amazing natural phenomenon but has an horrible history that not many people know about. The Aboriginal Butchulla people who are the indigenous inhabitants were killed and removed from their sacred land, because of the false stories that Aliza Fraser told the people.

The magical Island K'gari (Fraser Island): that's where we lived and worked the last month with the amazing ‪#‎dropbearadventures‬! A beautiful bunch of passionate people who are totally in love with this island. We loved it so much to be a part of the Dropbear Family, this part of our travels made a deep impact on us!

K'gari: oh where to begin!? Maybe I'll start with how many of us probably don't know the island K'gari! That's because most of us know it as Fraser Island. But did you know K'gari got that name because an English lady named Eliza Fraser told terrible lies about the Aboriginal Butchulla people, only to make her stories more sensational so her books would sell better? The history behind it you can find below.

K'gari is the traditional name of Fraser Island and means Paradise. K'gari was a beautiful spirit that helped the god Beeral to create the land. She was changed into a magical Island with trees and flowers to comfort her, birds and animals to keep her company and the lakes, clear as mirrors as her eyes so she could look up to the sky, where she came from.

The Butchulla people lived peacefully on the the island K'gari for more than 5,000 years. They rescued Eliza and look after her and despite that she told a dark and horrible story that's almost mythological.

K'gari had beautiful big trees, the European settlers became greedy and saw an opportunity to earn a lot from logging. The colonization caused many conflicts and Eliza's lies didn't help either. The Butchulla people were killed without any hesitation. The ones that survived were chased of a cliff of their most sacred place, into the water by the army. They admitted the reason of doing that was to save bullets!!!

By reading this, you can understand why we rather call it K'gari, paradise, because behind the name Fraser hides a not so nice truth.
