The Women in Physics Canada (WIPC) conference, hosted by the University of Waterloo, Faculty of Science, Department of Physics & Astronomy and the Institute for Quantum Computing, brought together early career scientists to present their research and hear plenary talks from leaders in physics.
Interim Director Kevin Resch opened the conference talking about IQC's commitment to equity and inclusivity before introducing the Hon. Bardish Chagger, Leader of the Government in the House of Commons and Minister of Small Business and Tourism. She encouraged young women to continue in science so that future generations of young women would see themselves in the field, as well as shared a message from the Minister of Science, Kirsty Duncan. Bob Lemieux, Dean of Science at the University of Waterloo, welcomed attendees on behalf of the faculty of science. He also expressed the need to have more women scientists in government in order to make good decisions based on evidence-based research.
