video thumbnail
What can the history of overfishing in the age of sail teach us about fisheries restoration in eastern Maine? Renowned author and professional seafarer Jeffrey Bolster will share fascinating insights about the role played by this part of Maine in the history of fishing innovation and exploitation in the 1600s to the 1800s. It is a story with colorful characters, one that is both human and ecological, and it shows how humans were transforming the ocean long before modern fishing.  Bolster is author of the widely-acclaimed “The Mortal Sea, Overfishing in the Age of Sail” published in 2014.
This public presentation is co-sponsored by Schoodic Institute and Penobscot East Resource Center.
Recorded at Moore Auditorium on the Schoodic Education and Research Center Campus in Winter Harbor Maine
