The Roman Empire was founded by the twin sons of Romulus and Remus in 757 BC. The empire was the pinnacle of Roman civilization, and it was the state of the Roman Empire that defined the future of the Roman people. The Romans were not the first people to inhabit Italy, but they were the first to live there for a long time. The period of Roman history is divided into three main periods: the first, the period of the Republic, the second, the period of the Empire, and the third, the period of the Dark Ages. The emperor was the head of the whole Roman Empire, and the Roman Empire was divided up into provinces. The first settlement was built by the Romans around the year 642 BC. The Romans' Etruscan neighbours captured Rome in 616, but were overthrown in 509. The oligarchy was a strong factor in allowing the Roman Empire to expand. After the death of Caesar in 64 A.D., his son Augustus assumed the title of emperor. In AD 65, Julius Caesar died, and his son, Octavian, was elected as the new emperor. From the first days of its establishment, its inhabitants have been the first to adopt Roman Catholicism, and the Church of Rome has been the most powerful force in the world. During the reign of Constantine, Christianity spread to the rest of Europe and it was the Roman Empire that was the first to accept Christianity. 0:00:06 01 - Ch 01: From the Battle of Actium to the Foundation of the Principate 0:25:49 02 - Ch 02: The Principate \(27 B.C.-14 A.D.\) 0:56:08 03 - Ch 03: The Joint Government of the Princeps and the Senate \(27 B.C.-180 A.D.\) 1:26:41 04 - Ch 03: The Joint Government of the Princeps and the Senate \(27 B.C.-180 A.D.\) 1:43:51 05 - Ch 04: The Family of Augustus and His Plans to Found a Dynasty \(27 B.C.-14 A.D. 2:12:53 06 - Ch 05: Administration of Augustus in Rome \& Italy\; The Organisation of the Arm 2:25:40 07 - Ch 05: Administration of Augustus in Rome \& Italy\; The Organisation of the Arm 2:47:48 08 - Ch 06: Provincial Administration under Augustus: The Western Provinces \(27 B.C. 3:17:43 09 - Ch 06: Provincial Administration under Augustus: The Western Provinces \(27 B.C. 3:47:39 10 - Ch 06: Provincial Administration under Augustus: The Western Provinces \(27 B.C. 4:11:18 11 - Ch 07: Provincial Administration under Augustus: The Eastern Provinces \(27 B.C. 4:36:29 12 - Ch 07: Provincial Administration under Augustus: The Eastern Provinces \(27 B.C. 4:56:24 13 - Ch 08: Rome \& Parthia \(27 B.C.-4 A.D.\)\; Expeditions to Arabia \& Ethiopia \( 5:14:27 14 - Ch 09: The Winning and Losing of Germany\; the Death of Augustus \(12 B.C.-14 A. 5:44:03 15 - Ch 09: The Winning and Losing of Germany\; the Death of Augustus \(12 B.C.-14 A. 6:02:57 16 - Ch 10: Rome under Augustus: His Buildings \(27 B.C.-14 A.D.\) 6:21:42 17 - Ch 11: Literature of the Augustan Age \(41 B.C.-14 A.D.\) Sect.
