"The Mathematical Sciences Research Institute (MSRI) and Berkeley City College (BCC) continued their "Not on the Test: The Pleasures and Uses of Mathematics" lecture series with "Brain-Computer Interfaces," a lecture by Dr. Phillip Sabes. Dr. Sabes discussed the basic science and recent technical advances in the field of Brain-Machine interface development, including work from his own laboratory. Brain-Machine Interfaces offer the promise of helping disabled patients by allowing them to control prosthetic limbs, computer interfaces, or other devices directly from the neural signals in their brain.
