In this case, the arpeggio begins as a simple Am Arpeggio, but is expanded to include more "color notes" as well as to facilitate a comfortable pattern for playing.

The next step is mix ideas from this newly created arpeggio into your existing scale ideas, whether they are pentatonic or diatonic scales, the result can be a more creative and colorful guitar solo.
