The presentation looks at the spiritual, cultural and art-architectural linkages that bind the East Asian civilizations of China (including Tibet and Hong Kong SAR), Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Mongolia to India over the last 2000 years. It thus looks at the ‘ancient India that continues to live in East Asia’ through a firsthand account of close to 100 destinations scattered in the East Asian region. Deepankar Aron, a Presidential Awardee for his contributions as an Indian Revenue Service officer, is a passionate traveler, a photographer and a writer. In his latest pictorial book – “On the Trail of Buddha – A Journey to the East”, he explores the spiritual & cultural linkages that bind India and East Asia.
World Heritage Sites of Uttarakhand, his first pictorial book was published in 2010. His articles on travel, nature and heritage have appeared in various magazines and newspapers.
An alumnus of IIT Delhi (B.Tech - Electrical Engg and M. Tech - Energy Studies). Over the last 27 years in the civil service, he held assignments ranging from Customs at Indo-Nepal border to implementing New Industrial Policy in Uttarakhand to policy making in the Ministry of Finance to a diplomatic stint as Consul in Hong Kong. He has represented the country at World Customs Organization, BRICS & several bilateral meetings with administrations such as China, Hong Kong SAR & many other countries.
