- Did you know that there was a real black samurai in Japan in the 16th century? His name was Yasuke and he was a warrior who served under the legendary daimyo Oda Nobunaga.
- Yasuke was originally from Africa, possibly from Ethiopia or Sudan, and he came to Japan as a bodyguard of a Portuguese missionary. He impressed Nobunaga with his strength, courage and intelligence, was granted the rank of samurai, a rare honor for a foreigner and soon became one of his most trusted retainers.
- Yasuke fought alongside Oda Nobunaga in many battles, wielding a katana and wearing a suit of armor. He was also fluent in Japanese and respected by the other samurai. The Black Samurai of Japan even had his own residence and a ceremonial katana from Oda Nobunaga.
- He became a legend in Japan and inspired many stories, books and movies. His life was full of adventure, drama and intrigue. He witnessed the rise and fall of Nobunaga, who was betrayed and killed by one of his generals in 1582. Yasuke's fate after that is unknown, but some say hthe Black Samurai of japan escaped to a Buddhist temple, where he lived as a monk until his death.
