Venturing Beyond Woke Culture | Sasikumaran Nandakumar | TEDxGeorgiaTechSalon

Woke culture has gone too far and become a toxic and divisive movement that emphasizes performative progress and cancel culture over real progress. It has created an environment where people are afraid to express their opinions or engage in discussions, stifles free speech, and erases individuality. I believe it should be used responsibly to raise awareness about critical issues that plague the world right now and aid those in need of it the most. It’s time for action, not distraction. Sasikumaran Nandakumar is a 4th year Mechanical Engineering undergraduate student and a Sri Lankan Tamil who grew up his whole life in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. He’d like to call himself a ‘third culture kid’ as he has been exposed to a myriad of cultures growing up: native, South Asian, and Western. This has given him a nuanced perspective on international ethnic issues. He aims to build a future to elevate the quality of life of the disabled and maimed using bionics and robotics. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
