Knee Replacement Surgery: Top 4 Ways to REDUCE Night Pain and SLEEP BETTER

Knee to Know Ep. 108

Pain at night and disturbed sleep is a huge problem for people after knee replacement surgery.

In this video I discuss my reasoning for why this may be, and what you can do about.

When laying in bed at night, there are no distractions. It is just you trying to fall asleep and you are completely aware of all the pain, stiffness, tightness, and swelling within your knee. No distractions that you have the rest of the day,

What can we do to deal with this pain and discomfort and help you fall asleep at night.

1. Accept the nature of the situation. Getting worked up and anxious about things will just further feed into your difficulty falling asleep. Acceptance is the first step.

2. Maintaining general good sleep habits... limit screen time in the evening, maintain good schedule of going to bed and waking up, maintaining a good sleep environment, limiting your alcohol use and caffeine in the evening.

3. Preparing yourself for sleep. Mainly, reducing your pain and symptoms as much as possible right before falling asleep... pain medicine, icing, heat, gentle massage, stretches or range of motion exercises

4. Are you trying to achieve the most comfortable position for you using pillows liberally.
