When Change Chooses You: Dale Hull at TEDxSaltLakeCity

video thumbnail
Dr. Dale Hull began his private medical practice in 1989 in Salt Lake City. Just 10 years later, he injured his spinal cord resulting in paralysis from the neck down. This life-altering event prevented him from returning to active practice. He became the patient in a world where he had once been the practitioner. After three years of rehabilitation and expert guidance from a physical therapist, this hard work combined with good fortune allowed him to regain some measure of functional ability, which included being a Torchbearer for the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympic Games.

He is currently the Executive Director of Neuroworx, a not-for-profit, innovative, community-based, outpatient physical therapy facility he co-founded with his physical therapist, Jan Black, in 2004. The clinic specializes in the rehabilitation of individuals with paralysis from spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and similar neurological conditions.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
