When it comes to huge hits, no one pumps out the jams like justin bieber and ed sheeran. That’s why these two have earned their spot of the most overplayed songs this year. That’s right, i said overplayed. And even ed sheeran thinks so. When shape of you came out way back in january, everyone loved it. The upbeat song would play in the radio, at the dentist, in the elevator, at your neighbors party. Pretty much everywhere you go, you would hear ed talking about how much he loves the shape of you. But when your song becomes such a massive success, sometimes you gotta turn down the radio. In an interview ed said “first time you hear it on the radio, it’s wonderful. But, Shape of you… i have to turn it down, because i’ve heard it so many times now!”. Ed’s album divide topped the album charts in 14 different countries, but surprisingly that’s not the impressive part. When it was released, every single one of his songs made it on the top 20 UK singles chart at THE SAME TIME. which literally forced the UK to change the way the top 20 chart is compiled. Now that is quite an impressive feat, but the battle isn’t over.

It’s not over because word just got out that Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s Despacito has officially become the most streamed song of all time, and it hit that mark just six months after its release. It has streamed over 5 BILLION times. We should mention this is specifically the justin bieber remix of despacito, and we reckon justin is pretty happy about the love that his song is getting. In fact, the last person to hold the record for most streamed song of all time was justin bieber himself for his hit “sorry”. Despacito, is the first spanish/american song to hit number one since the macarena came out in 1993. Now despacito also came out at the beginning of 2017 in January, so shape of you has been giving it a run for it’s money. But which song is truly the most overplayed of 2017? Well let’s look at the numbers.

Shape of you came out on Janurary 6th, despacito came out 6 days later on the 12th. Also despacito was nominated for Record of the Year, where shape of you.. Was not. That’s a little awkward. But both songs did have their time of glory in the number one slot on the U.S billboard hot 100.

But maybe what they say is true, it all comes down to personal taste. LIke my personal taste for example, personally. I’ll take despacito any day of the week over shape of you. No offense to all the ed sheeran fans out there, it’s just.. It sounds like the rest of his stuff. But justin bieber speaking spanish!?
