Carbon nanotubes, popularly known as CNTs, are cylindrically shaped molecules consisting of sheets of graphene. They can either be single-walled or be multi-walled.
There is a strong intermolecular interaction among the molecules in CNTs. They have a very high tensile strength, which arises from the sp2-sp2 bonds between graphene molecules. They can be either metallic conductors or semiconductors. Moreover, they can easily resist any kind of chemical impact, which suggests that chemically they are very stable. Due to having many such unique physical properties, they can be used in electronic devices, biosensors, electron field emitters, transistors, Li-ion batteries, white light sources, storage cells for hydrogen, electrical-shielding applications, and whatnot.
