King Mithridates VI of Pontus had been pushing the Roman Republic's limit for years. Finally, a large invasion force of Roman client states gathered enough troops to invade the Pontic Kingdom and defeat the King once and for all. King Nicomedes IV was the first to run into a Pontic expeditionary force. The swift, easy victory surely would be a morale boost for the invading army.
