The Afro-Middle East Centre hosted an international conference at the Sheraton Hotel in Pretoria, South Africa, 27 - 29 August, 2012 . The conference hosted various academics, political party leaders and other distinguished guests including South Africa's Deputy Foreign Minister, Ebrahim Ismail Ebrahim, Juan Cole, Larbi Sadiki and many others.

The aim of the conference was to inspire and disseminate thought on the Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) uprisings during 2011 and 2012 and to prescribe possible political outcomes and regional re-structurings in the near future.
