Carmen C. Bambach: 2019 Vilcek Prize for Excellence in Art History |

The Vilcek Foundation is pleased to announce Carmen C. Bambach as the recipient of the inaugural Vilcek Prize for Excellence. The prize, which includes a $100,000 award, is bestowed to an immigrant who has had a significant impact on American society and world culture.
Chilean-born Dr. Bambach is a curator of Italian and Spanish drawings at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. A specialist in Italian Renaissance art, she is the author of award-winning books, over 70 scholarly articles, and 10 exhibition catalogues, including "Leonardo da Vinci: Master Draftsman." Dr. Bambach was the organizer and curator of the Met’s 2017-18 exhibition, "Michelangelo: Divine Draftsman and Designer," which brought together never-before exhibited drawings alongside known masterpieces in a once-in-a-lifetime viewing opportunity.
