What nature teaches us about sustainable design | Lining Yao | TEDxPittsburgh |
|
Dr. Lining Yao from Carnegie Mellon University shares research and practice about sustainable morphing matter, which can help us rethink the way make, grow, and eat. Lining Yao designs sustainable morphing materials to advance science and society. Director of the Morphing Matter Lab at Carnegie Mellon University, she speaks and practices designs in the language of nature, material science, mechanics, and computational fabrication. Combining scientific curiosity and problem-solving, Lining and her lab develop processes, materials, tools, and applications of adaptive, dynamic, and intelligent morphing matter from nano to macro scales, oftentimes inspired by and designed for nature. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
