Bill Blair, President of the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada and Minister of Emergency Preparedness and Marco Mendicino, Minister of Public Safety held a press conference Tuesday to discuss the trucker convoy protest situation in Ottawa, Coutts, Alberta, and Windsor, Ontario, as well as the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Windsor Police said Tuesday morning that the Ambassador Bridge, which connects the southwestern Ontario city with Detroit, had reopened to U.S.-bound traffic, but heavy delays continue, after access to the bridge had been blocked Monday due to demonstrations in solidarity with the so-called “Freedom Convoy” protests in Ottawa.

Blair said he partook in the first meeting of the trilateral table between the federal government, province and City of Ottawa on Monday to keep “lines of communication” open between the three levels of government and help bring about a swift end to the ongoing anti-mandate protests in the capital.

Mendicino said the protests in Ottawa have become "beyond just inconvenience" and "beyond a disruption" and an inquiry is necessary to ensure "this kind of situation never happens again in our nation's capital."

Canada's House of Commons held an emergency debate Monday on the ongoing trucker protest and occupation in Ottawa at the behest of New Democratic Party (NDP) leader Jagmeet Singh.

What began as a protest against Ottawa’s vaccine mandate for truckers at the Canada-U.S. border has morphed into opposition to all public health measures including mask-wearing and vaccination and now calls for the prime minister to resign.
