video thumbnail
When McDonalds closed its doors back in March. A lot of Russians - some a little frustrated - started prepping for a life without Maccas. Now in response to Russia's continued invasion of Ukraine, McDonald's has decided to permanently close and sell its 850 stores across Russia. Way back in 1990 McDonalds became the first American fast-food restaurant in what was then the Soviet Union. People lined up for hours to taste things they'd never had before. The company says it'll keep paying its 62,000 employees until all of them are sold but continuing to operate as McDonald's would be going against the company's values. Other big brand companies have temporarily left Russia like Starbucks, KFC and Nike. But Maccas is one of the first to McPull the McPlug McPermanently.

BLOOD MOON
People around the world have been treated to the first total lunar eclipse of the year! It's also known as a blood moon when the moon passes through the earth's shadow, giving it a red glow. This is what it looked like in Greece, in Spain and the US. What a sight! This time around Australia missed out, but astronomers say we'll see a Blood Moon above our skies in early November.

GIRAFFE
These are Msituni's first steps after some life altering medical attention from some very creative docotrs. Msituni a baby giraffe at San Diego Zoo was born with a limb disorder...that caused her front legs to bend in the wrong direction. These joints are equivalent to our wrist bones but because giraffes are so tall their "wrists" are halfway up their legs and carry a lot of weight. As a baby Mstuni was already 55 kilos. So, the Zoo got some help from a company that makes these kinds of things for humans...and they were able to figure out a way to make braces for Msituni. They even had them made with giraffe print so Msituni wouldn't feel left out! After 10 days in braces Msituni has now been released back to the rest of her herd and has made plenty of friends.

STROLLER PUSHING COMPETITON
How good are your stroller-pushing skills? This town in Lithuania put theirs to the test as part of its 230th anniversary celebrations. Don't worry the prams are carrying stuffed animals, not real babies and also look at them go! Organisers also hope it encourages people in the town to have more kids exactly 230 more by next year. Wow very precise.

MICHAEL JORDAN SNEAKERS
It's pretty easy to put your best forward when you're wearing none other than Michael Jordan's sneakers. These 5 sneakers and one rookie card are going up for auction and 2 of them are even signed by the basketball legend himself! Yep the card alone will set you back an estimated $3-4 million. Along with the shoes we're talking $5 million. Hmm I wonder if the shoes have got any Michael Jordan magic in them.

PEDALO
Ready set paddle! Now don't be fooled this isn't a calm day on the pond according to organisers in Brussels, it's the world's first paddle boat championship! The rules are simple. Each team has 4 hours to paddle as many laps as they can. And we have a winner!! These guys ended up paddling 42 laps so 17,640 metres. Really did put their best foot forward!
