Riots in Sweden’s Malmo after another Quran burning |
|
Riots erupted in the Sweden’s third largest city, Malmo, on Sunday night, after anti-Islam activist Salwan Momika set fire to the Quran once again on Sunday, and police detained several people that tried to stop him.
Police said the riots saw protesters pelting rocks and setting cars and debris on fire. In a series of anti-Islam demonstrations, mostly in Stockholm, Momika has desecrated the Quran, which has caused anger in many Muslim countries and communities, while Swedish authorities have allowed his actions, citing freedom of speech. Denmark, which also saw desecration of the Quran in various recent protests, announced last week that it is planning to criminalise the improper treatment of the Quran and Bible, punishable by a fine and a jail sentence of up to two years.
