Challenge core activation and stability in a scrummaging position.
Crusaders scrum coach Dave Hewett explains and demonstrates a simple stability drill using Canterbury Rugby Players. This drill helps reinforce correct body position and core strength in a safe but effective manner. This drill should be practiced by all members of the scrum and can be practices by players from high school age and up. Level: High School & Above Categories: Scrums Coaching Points: 00:0:30.000 - Get into a good scrummaging position 00:0:32.000 - Add pressure at opposing angles to the players They maintain solid scrimmaging technique 00:0:39.000 - Players must have correct binding Common Faults: #1. Hips lower than shoulders #2. Should lower than hips #3. Beginners- left hand on the ground for each player Instructions: #1. Two players start in a one on one scrummaging position. #2. On the command from the coach they attempt to stay up in the set scrum position. #3. The coach then provides gentle force from different directions attempting to simulate what happens at scrum time #4. The players should attempt to do this for about 20 seconds 2-3 times.
