Everyone knows who George Washington was and about his contributions during the American Revolutionary War. But many people don’t understand that a lot of his heroic actions during the war were only made possible thanks to information gathered by a key group of patriots. Welcome back to Rad History, today we’re going to be taking a look at the inner workings of the Culper Spy Ring and breaking down everything we know about the secret organization that helped make America.

The American Revolutionary War kicked off in April 1775 after multiple skirmishes took place that saw Colonial Militiamen facing off against the British Troops around the areas of Concord and Lexington. Over the course of the following year, these skirmishes turned into a full-scale war for independence, and by 1776, the revolution was in full swing. During the summer of that year, British forces took control of New York and turned the city into one of the red coats' most notable strongholds during a large duration of the war. This worked well for them because the city was also able to be used as a significant naval base.
