If there is something that Covid-19 taught us, it was how much we all depend on each other. As we restart our social lives after the pandemic, let’s reflect on those lessons learned and apply them to better understand our social collective issues as humanity and find solutions that are sustainable and long-lasting. One of the most pressing issues we face nowadays is racism and discrimination. It is the cause of the thousands of mass shootings we have in America every year, discrimination, segregation, and even poverty. In an academically dense speech, psychologist Sandra Ferreira brings to our attention the urgent need for a deep revaluation and re-shift of our thinking related to the issues of immigration, as well as our connection with each other and with nature. What do the new scientific findings tell us about immigration and the current status quo? How is immigration associated with the survival of our species and planet? Come to join us in this mind-blowing and heart-touching experience, and hopefully embark with us in this new awareness wave, in favor of a more evolved society and planet. Sandra Ferreira is a Brazilian-American psychologist with over 30 years of experience in the clinical mental health field. Her vast academic background includes graduate degrees in music therapy, psychology, piano, and voice through the Pontific Catholic University of Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo State University (USP), New York University, The Boston Conservatory, and Northeastern University. She currently sees clients at her private practices in Needham, MA, and Huntington Beach, CA, and collaborates with Brazilian newspapers, radio stations, criminal and family courts from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and Orange county, and the Consulates General of Brazil in Boston, and Los Angeles, providing information, courses, workshops, direct assistance, and treatment to the community on mental health matters. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
