South Florida Iguana Hunt - Catch and Cook 2 way! |
![]() |
My first time ever going after Iguana so I hook up with Chris, the Local Iguana hunter to help me catch a few. I've never hunted anything before, besides fish, so I didn't know what to expect. In my mind I'm thinking we'd be trekking through mangroves with pellet guns, me being Elmer Fudd chasing Bugs Bunny. Quite the contrary, we ended up throwing an aluminum boat into a canal behind a mini mall. To add to my bewilderment, I was told to bring a fishing pole....:we're gonna go fishing for Iguanas!"
It didn't take long to spot Iguanas all along the bank, we could see them running into the hundreds of holes they drilled into the bank. Chris tells me they are very destructive and cost taxpayers millions in canal and sea wall repair all over Florida. They are also responsible for eating the same plants that the endangered Blue Butterfly use as a food source. I guess he's trying to motivate me into hunting them without feeling guilty about it, who hasn't had one as a pet before?. No license required but they must be humanly dispatched on site -we're off to my first Iguana hunt ever and we're gonna cook them too, 2 ways!! What the heck did I get myself into? We'll find out! Special thanks to Chris for taking me on this awesome Iguana adventure! Looking forward to Chasing Wild again soon! Check out Piscifun at : https://www.piscifun.com/ " Fish With Family!"
