Articulation Practice- Strident Sounds

Strident sounds include: s, z, sh, z, ch, and j. These sounds are fricative consonants and formed as sibilant sounds, however; includes labiodental and uvular fricatives too! These consonant sounds are higher in pitch and amplitude. These sounds are formed by pushing air with the tongue towards your teeth.

These sounds can be very difficult for people with hearing loss to learn. They are much harder to hear due to their high amplitude and pitch making them harder to learn without more practice most of the time. These students may not only benefit from practicing saying these sounds, however; also listening to the video (without looking) to determine which sound has been said (e.g. - auditory discrimination or comparison between /s/ and /sh/).
