Schrödinger's Cat is a famous thought experiment in quantum mechanics, devised by Austrian physicist Erwin Schrödinger in 1935. It illustrates the apparent paradoxes and counterintuitive aspects of quantum superposition and measurement. In the experiment, a cat is placed in a sealed box with a radioactive atom, a Geiger counter, a vial of poison, and a hammer. If the Geiger counter detects radiation, the hammer smashes the vial, releasing the poison and causing the cat's death. If no radiation is detected, the cat remains alive. According to quantum superposition, until the box is opened and observed, the cat exists in a superposition of being both alive and dead.
