The Pakistani former prime minister sustained bullet wounds to his leg during a rally in the eastern Punjab province.

The gunman was tackled by an attendee at the rally. Khan was taken to a nearby hospital after the attack and is said to be in a stable condition. Fawad Chaudhry, a spokesperson for Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, told Reuters that it was a 'clear assassination attempt. The entire PTI leadership would have been wiped out'.
