Tiberius Sempronius Longus, Consul 218 BCE |
|
Primarily known for his defeat at the hands of Hannibal at the Trebia, Longus is usually dismissed as yet another incompetent Roman general who fell victim to Hannibal. However, in this video, I argue that Longus is largely a victim of the pro-patrician bias of Polybius and the later historians who drew on his work. When viewed as a whole, Longus' record has a lot more good than bad.
