Prof Rana MItter, Director of the University of Oxford China Centre and Professor of the History and Politics of Modern China is interviewed by Prof Denis Noble, Emeritus Professor of Cardiovascular Physiology at the University of Oxford. Prof Mitter reveals the importance of 1919 as a key year in modern Chinese history, as well as the run up to the Second World War in Asia. He also touches on more recent controversies such as the potential for conflict in the South China Sea, and in the wider region due to the instability of North Korea, as well as the tensions over many years between elements of Chinese and Japanese society.
