One of the two screws were not doing anything to keep the tension lever stable - it was able to slip in and out. Fitdesk sent me replacements that work - the thread is thicker and the head just was able to fit though may have rubbed/scraped off some of the plastic - no big deal. Not perfect, but it appears to work.
