55th Annual Meeting (2nd): Looking for Progressive Policies to Tackle Economic Inequality in Asia

video thumbnail
Panelists in this session focused on policy response both for short term to address the impact of COVID-19, as well as long-term structural changes needed to address inequality. Together with other development partners, Oxfam International presented its research on inequality through a multistakeholder panel discussion at the sidelines of the 55th Annual Meeting of the ADB Board of Governors.

The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted profound inequalities both across and within countries. Years of underinvestment in health systems and lack of equitable access to healthcare impacted national responses to the pandemic, while inadequate social protection systems and labor policies hindered responses to national lockdowns. In addition to the inequalities revealed during the pandemic, global inequality has risen as the world has emerged from the lockdowns.
