Free Online Training: Understanding & Identifying Unconscious Bias

video thumbnail
No matter how well-intentioned we are, everyone carries unconscious biases and associations that affect our attitudes and responses to others based on characteristics such as age, gender, race, ethnicity, and appearance. These associations develop over a lifetime and are formed starting in early childhood through both direct and indirect messages. This free online training, led by Madeline McNeely, a facilitator, consultant, trainer, and leadership coach with 25 years of experience supporting organizations to be more racially just, equitable and inclusive through strategic planning and organizational culture change processes will help us examine this topic so that we can better understand the strengths, needs, and values of others and build relationships and systems of respect, inclusion and mutuality.

In this hour-long session you can expect to learn:
- What unconscious bias is and what it looks and feels like when it shows up both internally and externally
- How implicit biases harm relationships and communities
- How personal bias supports and reinforces structural inequity and racism
- Basic techniques for confronting our own biases and resources we can use to learn more about how to overcome them
