Troubled Waters |

Makoko was settled by fishermen in the 1860s who built their houses on stilts in the lagoon in Lagos, Nigeria. Today there are 100,000 people living in Makoko. The local government views it as a slum and regularly demolishes the houses with little or no warning. The waterfront has been ear-marked for a multi-million dollar property development. There is no compensation for people whose homes are destroyed. Most end up homeless.
