There are 5 Daily Prayers and each prayer is reminded by calling of the Azan.

Azan is an indicator that its time to connect with Allah.

There are 2 Types of Azans
1. Fajr Azan
- For the 1st Obligatory Prayer in Islam

- For the 2nd Obligatory Prayer in Islam referred as the Zuhr Prayer
- For the 3rd Obligatory Prayer in Islam referred as the Asr Prayer

- For the 5th Obligatory Prayer in Islam referred as the Isha Prayer

The English translation of the adhan is:

God is Great! God is Great! God is Great! God is Great!
I bear witness that there is no god except the One God.

Hurry to the prayer. Hurry to the prayer.

History of Azan:
Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him) chose Bilal ibn Ribah to call people to prayer, a freed Ethiopian slave and one of the early converts to Islam, because of his marvelous voice. When Bilal first called the adhan, ‘Umar bin Al-Khattab, who later became the second caliph, heard him in his house and came to Prophet Muhammad saying that he had seen precisely the same vision in his dreams.

That Bilal’s purity of heart was considered of high measure by Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him) is evidenced by a story in which several of the prophet’s followers advised Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him) to give the distinction of muezzin to someone else. Due to the fact that Bilal’s Arabic pronunciation carried a heavy Ethiopian accent, he apparently was unable to effectively say the
consonant “sh.” Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings Be Upon Him) is reported to have responded: “The ‘siin’ of bilal is ‘shiin’ in the hearing of Allah,” meaning that Allah cares not for the physical manifestation, but rather the purity of heart and intention.

Other Occasions: New Born Baby & Azan
It is an Islamic tradition that Approximately Billion Muslims Call Azan in the in the Ears of their New Born:

The Procedure:
A male family member of the new born child should recite the Azaan and Iqamah upon the child. If a male member is not present then any female member can recite the Azan and Iqamah upon the child, even it be the child’s mother.

The procedure of performing Azan and Iqamah in a new born baby’s ears is as follows:

The baby should face towards the Qibla.
The Azan should be recited normally in the right side of the baby’s ear.
The Iqamah should be recited normally in the left side of the baby’s ear.
