APNA 2016 National Conference - Breakfast Session Speakers: Nicole Senior and Prof Paul Nestel Description: Dietary fats in the context of heart health has become a highly topical issue in recent years causing many Australians to opt for eating patterns that are not consistent with current guidelines. This session will highlight the current research on dietary fats and heart health, and provide attendees with practical recommendations and resources for their patients. Nicole Senior is a well respected Accredited Practising Dietitian and Nutritionist, writer, speaker, blogger and freelance nutrition consultant with over 20 years experience. She is author of four books: Eat to Beat Cholesterol, Food Myths, Belly Busting for Blokes and Heart Food and a regular nutrition commentator in traditional and social media. Nicole’s nutritional approach is common sense supported by science and she loves turning complex nutrition concepts into achievable everyday eating advice. Professor Paul Nestel is on the Senior Faculty of the Baker IDI Heart & Diabetes Institute. He has been involved in nutrition related research and nutrition relevant health policies for several decades. He was Chief of CSIRO’s Division of Human Nutrition for 10 years and at the time chaired the Oversighting Committee, National Food & Nutrition Policy of the Commonwealth Government, 1992. He was a member of a Working Group on Food Processing for the Prime Minister’s Science Council, a member of NH&MRC National Nutrition & Food and Health Committee, Chairman of National Heart Foundation’s Diet & Heart Disease Committee, President of the International Union of Nutrition Congress 1992, Chair of the National Nutrition Committee, Australian Academy of Science. He has served on numerous national and international working parties on policies related to nutrition and cardiovascular health. |
